What is Qigong?

Qigong, pronounced “chee gong,” was developed in China thousands of years ago. It is a type of mindful movement that uses slow, fluid movements and is similar to Tai Chi.

The simplicity and repetition of the movements can make it easier to learn than similar forms of exercise.

Qigong uses gentle exercises that can improve the body’s energy flow to find greater health and wellness.

What are Diva Fusion Dance Workshops?

In these fun and flirty workshops, we will delve into dance theory while tapping into our inner goddess! By fusing belly dance and burlesque movements with fitness concepts, we will explore topics such as themes, transitions, and timing. Workshops include a light to moderate aerobic workout. These workshops are good for those new to dance and seasoned performers. No dance experience is needed!

We will learn how to move in the different planes of the body to understand the many ways the human body can move and how that can be applied to our dance training and performances. We will also work at modifying movements to make them best for our bodies.

Workshop #1: Shimmy Secrets

In this workshop will focus on how to move our bodies to bring all of the different shimmies in belly dance and burlesque to life! We will explore both upper and lower body shimmies to shake the stress away.

We will explore about creating dynamic performances through music selection, performance style, and stage presence. No dance experience is needed!

Workshop #2: Circles and Waves

In this workshop will focus on how we can slow down to get in a flow for movements like hip circles, undulations, and arm waves. We will learn ways our upper and lower body can move to make fluid movements.

Explore how directions, timing, and transitions can help us create unique performances.  We will explore how we can adapt to different stages, create interesting angles, and make smooth transitions.

What Should I wear/bring?

Please wear clothes that are easy to move in. Some ideas would be a tank top, sports bra, T-shirt, leggings, yoga pants, or shorts. You do not need to show your belly. We will be using hip scarves in class, so if you have a wrap, scarf, or dance skirt feel free to bring it. Please make sure they are silent!  I will also have ones to loan in class. Feel free to pull out your flirty stuff, too, as we are divas!

These workshops are designed to be done barefoot or in flat dance shoes like ballet flats. Workshops include a light to moderate aerobic workout. Please bring a water bottle, there is also water provided at the studio.

What should I expect in class?

The class is in a follow-along style but we will not be following a strict choreography. There will be time in class to freestyle and apply the topics and movements that we learned that day and get into your own flow! This way you can see how it feels in your body. We will also have time for discussion.
